The shield of the College of Medicine Baghdad an escutcheon was adopted, depicting the three waterways of Iraq - the  Tigris and the Euphrates merging with the Shatt al Arab  to produce a Y-form. Within the arms of this Y were  represented a serpent and an open book, while below on either side of the stem there was an Assyrian bull.
