Online First Policy
Online First Policy for Journal of the Faculty of Medicine Baghdad
- Purpose of Online First Publication
The “Online First” model allows accepted manuscripts to be published online shortly after the completion of the peer-review and editorial processes, ensuring rapid dissemination of research findings while maintaining high publication standards.
- Definition of Online First
“Online First” refers to the early online publication of an accepted manuscript, before the publication of the scheduled issue of the journal. These articles are fully citable and represent the final peer-reviewed and edited version.
- Eligibility for “Online First” Publication
- Acceptance Requirement: Only manuscripts that have successfully undergone peer review and are formally accepted for publication are eligible for Online First.
- Completion of Edits: Articles must have undergone all necessary revisions, copyediting, and author proofs.
- Features of Online First Articles
- Permanent DOI: Online First articles are assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) upon publication, ensuring that they are permanently citable.
- Final Content: The content of Online First articles is final and identical to the version that will appear in the journal issue. No further changes will be made except for pagination and issue assignment.
- Citation Format: Online First articles should be cited using the following format:
Author(s). Title of the Article. J Fac Med. Baghdad. Year; Volume (Issue). DOI.
- Advantages of Online First
- Rapid Dissemination: Research findings are made available to the academic community without delays associated with issue scheduling.
- Visibility and Impact: Early online publication enhances article visibility and can contribute to citation metrics earlier in the article's lifecycle.
- Assignment to an Issue
- Online First articles are assigned to specific journal issues, with volume, issue, and page numbers added.
- Once assigned to an issue, the article retains its DOI and citation details, ensuring continuity and ease of reference.
- Licensing and Copyright
- Articles published under the Online First model are subject to the same licensing and copyright terms as other articles in the journal (e.g., Creative Commons or traditional copyright).
- Authors retain their rights as outlined in the journal’s publication agreement.
- Accessibility
- Open Access Articles: Since our journal follows an open-access model, Online First articles will be freely accessible to all readers upon publication.
- There will be extra fees for this service; see APC.
- Ethical and Compliance Considerations
- Articles published "Online First" must comply with the journal’s ethical guidelines, including policies on plagiarism, conflicts of interest, and research integrity.
- Once published online, authors are not permitted to make further substantial changes to the manuscript.
- Communication with Authors
- Authors will be notified once their article is published "Online First," with instructions for sharing and promoting the article.
- Authors are encouraged to update any preprints or related repositories with the DOI and a link to the "Online First" version.
