Author Guidelines

The journal accepts the following publication types:

  1. Research Article.
  2. Letters to the Editor.
  3. Case Report.
  4. Review Article.

The timeline for the acceptance letter, starting from the date of reviewing is about 3-4 months.

Summary requirements for each type of Submission.

Research Article Requirements:
The manuscript should be typed double-spaced, on size A4 paper sheets with at least one-inch margins on each side of the sheet. Type only on one side of the paper. Each manuscript component should begin on a new page, in this sequence:
1. Title page.
2. Abstract and keywords.
3. Text.
4. References.
5. Tables: each table is completed with title and footnotes.
6. Figures and images should be in high-resolution TIFF or JPEG.

The resolution should be as follows:

  • 1200 dpi resolution for line graphs and line charts with no color or gray shading.
  • 600 dpi resolution for color figures and grayscale with text.
  • 300 dpi resolution for grayscale images, e.g., radiographs.

Title Page
The title page should include:
(1) The article's title should be concise but informative.
(2) A short-running title of no more than 40 characters.
(3) First name, middle initial, and last name of each author with email, and ORCID number for each author.
(4) Name of department(s), institution(s), city, and country to which the work should be attributed.
(5) Name and address of the author responsible for correspondence about the manuscript.

Abstract: The abstract is between (250 -300) words. The abstract should include the background, objectives, Methods, results, and conclusion. The abstract should state the purposes of the study or investigation, basic procedures (study subjects or experimental animals; observational and analytical methods), main findings, and the principal conclusions. Emphasize new and important aspects of the study or observations. 

Keywords: provide five alphabetical keywords or short phrases separated by semi-colon that will assist indexers in cross-indexing your article and that may be published with the abstract. 

Text: The text is divided into sections with the headings: Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion.

➢ Introduction- clearly states the purpose of the research and summarizes the rationale for the study or observation. It should give only strictly pertinent references and not review the subject extensively. It must be ended with the aim of the study.

➢ Methods: include the selection of observational or experimental subjects. Identify the methods, apparatus (manufacturer’s name and address in parentheses), and procedures in sufficient detail, including statistical methods.

➢ Results: Present in a logical sequence in the text, tables, and illustrations. One may not repeat all the data in the tables, illustrations, or both in the text; emphasize or summarize only important observations.

➢ Discussion: Emphasizes the new and important aspects of the study and concludes and relates the observations to other relevant studies. It must be ended with the limitation of the study.

➢ Conclusions should be connected with the goals of the study.

Authors Contributions:

The manuscript should mention the contribution of each author 
1. The first author is primarily responsible for collecting, analyzing, and writing the manuscript.
2. The last or senior author is usually an established investigator, a primary mentor, and assumes overall responsibility.
3. The middle authors are usually listed in order of contribution.

References:
References should be written in Vancouver style. They should be numbered in Arabic numerals consecutively in the order of their appearance in the text tables or figures. Vancouver Style. They should be listed in a separate sheet as List all authors when six or less; if seven or more, list only the first three names and add et al. Title. Journal name abbreviated as in MEDLINE. Year; volume number (issue number). pages number. DOI

The number of references should not be less than (20) and not more than (40). It is important to notice that 80% of references are recent and are within the last five years.

Tables:

Tables should be double-spaced and placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end. The numbering of tables should be done consecutively in the order of their first appearance in the text. Supply a brief title for each. All tables should have no inside lines or bars. Give each column a short or abbreviated heading. Statistical explanations should be in table footnotes not in the heading. Explain in the footnotes all non-standard abbreviations that are used in each table. Identify statistical measures of variations such as SD or SEM.

Illustrations:

Submit the required number of complete sets of figures. Figures should be professionally drawn and photographed. Letters, numbers, and symbols should be clear and even throughout, and of sufficient size. Titles and detailed explanations belong in the legends for illustrations, not on the illustrations themselves. Cite each figure in the text in consecutive order.

Abbreviations and symbols:
Use only standard abbreviations. The full term for which an abbreviation stands should precede its first use in the text unless it is a standard unit of measurement.

Description

Letters to the Editor

Letters to the Editor are of two types:  commenting on a recently published article or reporting on a case, outbreak, or original research. The former must be received within two months of publication of the relevant article and must not exceed 500 words. The latter should not exceed 1000 words in total and include up to 10 references and 2 figures and/or tables. They should not be divided into parts.

Case Report

Case reports will be accepted if it fit with the scope of the journal. A case report consists of an abstract (250–300 words), introduction, case report, discussion, conclusion, and references. Case reports should be limited to 1,000 words, 15 references, and a reasonable number of tables and/or figures (not to exceed 2,500 words).

Review Article

Review articles should be written by authors who are  considered experts in the field. Therefore, the corresponding author of a review article must be one of the authors of at least three articles in the reference section. They must contain an abstract of no more than 300 words, a text of 2,000 to 3,000 words (excluding the maximum 90 references), and up to 6 tables and /or figures (5,500 to 6,000 words total).

 

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements:

  • Don't submit before checking you followed the journal guidelines while submitting, and you fixed the title of the text file or the short title of the manuscript, otherwise, the journal will disregard or reject your submission
  • The manuscript must be accompanied by a Cover Letter. It is signed by the corresponding author, confirming that the paper has not been published elsewhere Authors' Declaration.pdf. and will not be submitted to another journal. All Authors (s) should fill out and sign the Copyright Form. It also explains the importance of the study and why the author(s) chose the Journal of the Faculty of Medicine Baghdad.
  • Author(s) are required to fill out the Study Ethical Approval or The Animal Welfare form (if the study includes an animal laboratory).
  • The submission file is a Microsoft Word Article Template
  • An Arabic and English Abstract should be provided between (250 to 300 words, with Arabic and English author names, emails, ORCID, and affiliations.
  • To help you create keywords from an abstract, use MeSH on Demand (https://meshb.nlm.nih.gov/MeSHonDemand) as a tool that can automatically generate keywords.
  • The text is single-spaced and uses a 14/16-point font; all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author's Guidelines.
  • Each author or contributor(s) must register/create an ORCID ID when making a new submission.
  • The author must provide proofreading for the manuscript with an official document.

  • If an artificial intelligence (AI) tool is used when writing the manuscript, creating images or graphic elements of the work, or collecting and analyzing data, the author must describe how and which tool was used in the Materials and Methods section. Authors are solely responsible for the content of their manuscripts, including portions created using artificial intelligence tools, and are therefore responsible for any breach of publication ethics.
  • The research undertaking and submission request forms are available in the Author's Guidelines and should be completed formally and submitted before the journal takes any action
  • About 80% of references are recent and within the last 5 years.
  • All the references must be provided with DOI. For DOIs use the following link: https://apps.crossref.org/SimpleTextQuery
  • If the DOI number is not found, the author can add a URL instead.
  • All the references must be written in Vancouver Reference Style.
